Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Oenochrominae, but has subsequently been transferred to the Ennominae; I have not found any published reference to the transfer.

Doratoptera was treated in the Geometridae, Ennominae by Fletcher 1979, Generic Names Moths World, 3 : 64.

Doratoptera Hampson, 1895, was also placed (referred)in the Ennominae from Oenochrominae within the Geometride by Yazaki, 1992, Tinea 13 (Suppl. 2) : 34,

Parsons et al. (1999) included AOSHACHIA Matsumura, 1927; MARUMONA Sawamoto, 1938; and SERICANAPHE Kiriakoff, 1964 as junior synonyms of DORATOPTERA Hampson, 1895.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 3 species in the genus DORATOPTERA.
