Pseudocopicucullia Dumont, 1928 was downgraded to a subgenus of Cucullia Schrank, 1802 by Ronkay & Ronkay 1988, Annales Historico Naturales Musei Nationalis Hungarici 80 : 94.

Calocucullia Ronkay & Ronkay, 1987 was established to denote a subgenus of Cucullia Schrank, 1802 and was raised to generic level by Ronkay & Ronkay, 1994, Noctuidae Europaeae. Vol. 6, Cuculliinae 1, p.171.

Cucullia Schrank, 1802, was treated as a valid genus and brought out of synonymy by Ronkay and Ronkay, 1995, Noctuidae Europaeae, 7 (2) : 10.

Poole (1989) included EUCALIMIA Hübner, 1821 as a junior synonym of CUCULLIA Schrank, 1802 on page 394, although he did not list it amongst the synonyms of CUCULLIA Schrank, 1802 on page 292.
