Fletcher (1979) stated:-

Nomenclaturally available from 1907, but without generic diagnosis until published by Warren, 1909, Novit. zool. 16: 127; the type-species designation accompanying the diagnosis is invalid because of the previous monotypy.

Parsons et al. (1999) included CHROSTOBAPTA Warren, 1907; DEUTEROSTEGANE Wehrli, 1939; and LIPOSCHEMA Warren, 1914 as junior synonyms of HETEROSTEGANE Hampson, 1893.
