Nye (1975) stated:-

N. pellex is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena puerpera Giona, 1791, Cal. Ent.: 104. N. pellex has been designated the type-species as in addition to being the first of the five originally included species, it is congeneric with the type-species of Catocala Schrank, 1802. Blepharonia thus becomes a synonym and will cause no further confusion in the complex usage of the similiar names Blephara, Blepharidia and Blapharum, all proposed by Hübner.
