Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) and Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-

Belemnia was established as a subgenus of Euchromia Hübner, [1819], in the 'Zygaenidae`; it was placed in the Arctiidae by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 170; and was transferred to the Ctenuchidae by Kiriakoff, 1950, Lambillionea 50: 64.

The CTENUCHIDAE were treated as ARCTIIDAE: ARCTIINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).
