Nye & Fletcher (1991) included SYMPHOROSTOLA in the subfamily OECOPHORIDAE: XYLORYCTINAE, treated by Hodges, in Kristensen (1999) as a subfamily of XYLORYCTIDAE.

Symphorostola Meyrick, 1927 was referred to the (Heppner & Duckworth's) Oecophoridae from (Heppners & Duckworths) Choreutidae by Heppner & Duckworth, 1981, Smithsonian contributions to Zoology (314) : 57.

Nye & Fletcher (1991) stated:-

Symphorostola was included in the "Glyphipterygidae", by Fletcher, 1929, Mem. Dep. Agric. India (Ent.) 11: 213; it was transferred to the Oecophoridae Xyloryctinae by Heppner & Duckworth, 1981, Smithson. Contr. Zool. 314: 57.
