Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:-

The name Phoenicoprocta probably originated from Hampson but was used and made nomenclaturally available by Druce prior to its proposal by Hampson, 1898 December, as the name for a new genus.

P. metachrysea is a junior subjective synonym of Eunomia vacillans Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 7: 1617.
