Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:-

The diagnosis of Nosophora was based on specimens that Lederer had misidentified as Botys chironalis Walker, 1859, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 18: 683; the misidentified species was named Nosophora dispilalis Hampson, 1896. Under the Code, Article 70(a), the case of a misidentified type-species should be referred to the Commission. We suggest that the Commission be asked to designate as the type-species of Nosophora the nominal species actually involved, namely Nosophora dispilasis Hampson, 1896.

Shaffer (pers. comm.) treats NOSOPHORA in the CRAMBIDAE: SPILOMELINAE.
