Fletcher (1979) stated:-

Gnophos intermedia was originally described in the combination Gnophus glaucinaria intermedia, a subgenus of Geometra glaucinaria Hübner, [1799] 1796, Samml. eur. Schmett. 5: pl.28, fig.150, and was raised to specific rank by Wehrli, 1921, Ent. Z., Frankf.a.M. 35: 25.

Neognophina was originally proposed as a subgenus of Gnophos Treitschke, 1825; it was again so proposed by Wehrli, 1951, Lambillionea 51: 24; and 1953, in Seitz, Gross-Schmett. Erde 4 (Suppl.): 595.

Parsons et al. (1999) included COSTIGNOPHOS Wehtli, 1951; EUCHROGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; HYPOSCOTIS Hübner, 1825; KEMTROGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; LYCOGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; NEOGNOPHINA Wehrli, 1946; and RHOPALOGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951 as junior synonyms of CHARISSA Curtis, 1826.
