Fletcher (1979) stated:-

M. acuminata is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena filia Stoll, 1780, in Cramer, Uitlandsche Kapellen (Papillons exot.) 3: 128, 175, pl.264, fig.D.

Mauna was originally proposed in the Noctuidae, but has since been transferred to the Geometridae, where it was placed by Prout, 1916, Ann. Transv. Mus. 5: 170.
