Incorrect type-species: Phalaena niveata Scopoli, 1763, a name not originally included in Lithostege and not linked with one of the originally included names when designated by Guenée, 1857, in Boisduval & Guenée, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid.) 10: 503, where the species is listed as Geometra nivearia [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, an unjustified emendation.

Parsons et al. (1999) included AGRAPHA Gumppenberg, 1887 as a junior synonym of LITHOSTEGE Hübner, 1825.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 49 species and 12 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus LITHOSTEGE.
