Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:-
The name Laemocharis probably originated from Boisduval who attributed it to himself in Boisduval, 1870, Considérations Lépid. Guatemala: 80.
Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-
Laemocharis when established was not placed in a family; it was placed in the Zygaenidae by Grote, 1873, when the type-species was designated, and retained in the Zygaenidae by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 137, and by Bryk, 1936, in Strand, Lepid. Cat. 71: 301. Both Kirby and Bryk designated different and invalid type-species. Hampson, 1898, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus. 1: 175, placed L. pertyi in the Syntomidae, now Ctenuchidae.
