Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-

A junior homonym of Ambulyx Westwood, 1847, Cabinet oriental Ent.: [61], - Lepid., Sphingidae. There is no objective replacement name, but Ambulyx eurycles is congeneric with Sphinx strigilis Linnaeus, [1771], the type-species of Protambulyx Rothschild & Jordan, 1903; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name.

Ambulyx was regarded by Herrich-Schäffer as a Boisduval manuscript name.

Kitching & Cadiuo (2000) list AMBULYX Burmeister 1855; AMBULYX Herrich-Schäffer, 1854; AMBULYX Lucas, 1857 and AMBULYX Walker, 1856 as junior names of PROTAMBULYX Rothschild & Jordan, 1903.
