I got an infestation of these and got rid of them by spraying the house with a flea spray for furniture etc. containing Methoprene and Permethrin. A substance harmless to us but deadly for insects. It last up to 1 year and should be easily obtained from any major pet supermarket or decent pet shop. It will take a while but it will kill them. You don't need to spray on to the insects just the soft furnishings and carpets etc. like you would treat a dog or cat flea infestation. The beetles are common garden beetles that are usually found in small colonies. Long slim looking things, i havent seen them fly. If you try vacuuming the carpet you'll only find them reappearing, because i've found the larvae which is brownish in colour as well.
5- Methoprene and Methoprene are commonly used in foodstuffs as a preservative.Permethrin is a general insecticide. As i said get a can of household flea spray. If resident in the UK i suggest Acclaim, 1 can treats 175 sq m. I'm looking at the can i bought and it states kills housedust mites, silverfish, centipedes, earwigs, spiders, ants and possibly wasps as well as fleas. If outside the UK there are companies which make the same product except the name will be different.
Hope this will be useful to you in getting rid of the problem. I've not had much bother since just the occasional stragler usually found dead. I also note that it kills moths as i found a dead one on my livingroom carpet.
