NaturePlus: help with ID

help with ID

I found these on the beach in Chennai, India. Usually, I would be able to make an educated guess as to the origins of my finds, but I have no idea what these might be.

Any help is appreciated.

These are horn corals.

  I thought horn corals refered to an extinct species? Any chance I could get a genus or family?

    I am a scuba diver and although I recognise corals I do not know their names. Here is a link to modern 'horn corals' which may be useful

      Thanks for the link and the identification! A quick search also seems to suggest Anomocora Gigas as a possibility.

Indeed, "Horn Corals" became extinct at the end of the Palaeozoic so "Stone Corals" is the term used for these but thanks John for giving the link to that excellent website!
