  • The drawing is inscribed in blue pencil at top right with the number "14", which refers to the pre-1984 numbering system for the Watling Collection.
  • The drawing is inscribed at bottom in black ink with the title "A View of the Islands that lay between the SW Cape and the Mew Stone", apparently in John Hunter's hand. The island on the right is labelled in black ink "Mew Stone EBS 1/2 8 miles", and the next one along "Long Ships EBN 3/4 N 2 Leagues".
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated. Bernard Smith (Wheeler and Smith (1988), p. 208-9) attributes the drawing to John Hunter, possibly in collaboration with the Port Jackson Painter, on stylistic grounds.
  • The style of the drawing closely resembles that of Watling Drawing number 9.
  • The author of this catalogue record is Suzanne Stenning.
