  • The drawing is inscribed in blue pencil at top right with the number "17", which refers to the pre-1984 numbering system for the Watling Collection.
  • The drawing is inscribed in brown ink at bottom, below the border, "A View of [Lord] Howe Island (a) Mount Lidgbird (b) Mount Gower", the word "Lord" having been inserted in pencil at a later date.
  • T. M. Perry (Wheeler and Smith, 1988) has identified the view as being of the bay on the western side of Lord Howe Island. The Island was discovered by Lieutenant Ball of the First Fleet in February 1788.
  • The author of this catalogue record is Suzanne Stenning.
