  • The drawing is annotated in ink at lower left "Native name Burra-mas-ron-er-e", and at lower centre, in what appears to be Watling's copperplate hand, "Natural size. -".
  • The drawing is signed at lower right "Thos. Watling, delt.", but is undated.
  • The drawing is inscribed in ink at top right with the number "170.". This refers to the catalogue list compiled by John Latham c. 1801 which was acquired with the drawings, and is filed with them at the end of the Watling Drawings series.
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "Red-bellied Flycatcher Syn iii 343 pl. 50". This has been copied in ink at lower left, "Red-bellied Flycatcher Latham Syn Vol 3. p 343. pl 50.". The page reference is to Volume 3 of Latham's General Synopsis of Birds (1781-5).
  • This bird was identified as the Scarlet Robin Petroica multicolor (male) in Hindwood K. A. (1970).
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "Lambert Drawing III. 36". This refers to a related set of drawings from the collections of the 13th Earl of Derby, held in the Library at Knowsley Hall, Lancashire.
