Bird in profile, facing to the left with its back arched and head pointing downwards, perched on a tree branch against a plain background. The upper parts of the bird are coloured in shades of brown and yellow ochre, overlaid with darker hatched lines. The under parts are off-white, with horizontal stripes of brown and ochre. The claws described in the annotation appear to curl underneath the branch. The drawing is framed by a pencil border and annotated in ink and pencil.
