  • Port Jackson Painter]
  • The drawing is inscribed in blue pencil at top right with the number "69", which refers to the pre-1984 numbering system for the Watling Collection.
  • The drawing is inscribed in brown ink at bottom centre "Gna.na.gna.na", which is presumed to be the man's name. However, R.J. Lampert in Wheeler and Smith (1988) suggests that this may be another portrait of Balloderree (see Watling drawing number 58), or of Bennelong's brother-in-law Gnunga Gnunga, as there is no mention of an aborigine named Gna.na.gna.na in early First Fleet literature.
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated.
  • The drawing appears to have been cropped, notably on the left hand side where the blue band of the border is missing. The border and watermark match Watling drawing number 58, which has been similarly cropped on the right hand side, suggesting that these two drawings were originally one whole.
