  • The drawing is inscribed in black ink in a panel at the bottom "VIEW of PORT HUNTER on the No. Side Duke of York Island St. Georges Chan.l where we waterd in the Waaksaamheydt May 1791".
  • The drawing is signed and dated at lower right "Taken in the Waaksaamheydt by GEO RapeR#. 1791".
  • The drawing is inscribed in pencil at bottom left with the number "27", at top right "26", and on the reverse "51".
  • Raper left Port Jackson for England in March 1791 on the Waaksamheyd, captained by John Hunter. Hunter gave an account of this voyage in An Historical Journal of the Transactions at Port Jackson and Norfolk Island (London, 1793), including their arrival at Duke of York Island in May 1791 (pp.229-). T.M. Perry in Wheeler and Smith (1988) notes the similarity between this drawing and the view included with William Bradley's plan of the Port, published by A. Dalrymple, September 1794.
