The African Acarology Association was established on 27th November, 1998 in Pretoria, South Africa with the mission:

• To provide a means of communication, co-operation and personal contact amongst acarologists in Africa;
• To promote and support the study of mites and ticks in Africa;
• To provide a formal platform or forum for reports and discussion of research activities, ideas and methods, research aims and needs.
