Virtual Race for Nature

Participants run in the race for nature dressed up as dinosaurs and other animals

Event information

Deadline for entries: 31 August

Plan your route, gather the herd and get on the move.

Special prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraisers and the most creative routes.

This event is now closed.

Can you pace out a parrot in your local park? Or draw out a dinosaur in the centre of town?

Join the virtual Race for Nature and raise money for a future where both people and the planet can thrive.

This year we want to challenge you to complete the Race for Nature in your local habitat. Instead of a dash to the finish line, we want to see what creatures you can draw with the mapped path of your route.

The event is free to take part and there will be prizes for those who hit our fundraising targets. Every step you take, each animal you create and each £1 you raise helps protect our planet!

  • Planning your route

    • Before you head out, take a look at a map of your local area, look out for paths or roads that look like part of an animal or plant
    • Start with something easy, a snake will be much easier to create than a platypus!
    • Try creating your creature in a park where your route won’t be blocked by buildings and roads
    • Bring an outline of the animal you would like to create with you on a device so you can use it as a reference
  • Fundraising prizes

Raise £25 and receive a Race for Nature medal

Raise £50 and you'll receive a medal and a small surprise

Raise £100 and you'll get the medal and access to an exclusive NHM online lecture

Raise £250 and you'll get the medal, access to an exclusive NHM online lecture plus one years free Membership to the Museum

Run, walk, jog or wheel and see what you can create. If you can, use a route tracing app to record the route you are pacing out (Strava and Map My Run are good examples).

Share your movement masterpieces with us using #RaceForNature to be in with a chance of featuring on our social media and winning special Museum prizes.

Entrants of all abilities are welcome to join and you can take part alone or as part of your pack. As a runner, you will receive emails filled with fundraising tips, training advice and costume ideas in the lead up to the event.

Don't be a lone wolf - join our pack!
