Gemstones are not just for Valentine's Day. Join our scientists to discover some of the incredible specimens that make up the Museum's Mineral collection.

Containing around 185,000 specimens, the Museum's Mineral collection is a treasure trove of curiosities.

Join Principal Curator in Charge of Minerals, Mike Rumsey, and Curator of Minerals, Robin Hansen, as they take us through their most treasured minerals from both a scientific and historic perspective.

From a mineral with an almost identical chemical make-up to Superman's kryptonite, to another that holds the key for sustainable travel, the mineral collection is full of surprises.

Discover some of the incredible gemstones from the Museum's collection and find out why these often beautiful stones are so scientifically valuable.
