Member Talk: Hope for the Ocean with Dr Sylvia Earle
Member & Patron Virtual Event
Free, online event - no ticket required
Monday 10 January 2022, 19.00-20.00
Members are invited to join Time Magazine's first Hero for the Planet, Dr Sylvia Earle for a discussion around her latest book, 'OCEAN: A Global Odyssey'.
Sylvia will be joining us live from the USA to unveil the significance of our oceans to life on earth.
In conversation with Tim Littlewood, Executive Director of Science at the Museum, she will explore the importance of oceans for the planet's climate, sustaining life, and supporting marine biodiversity.
With particular focus on human impact, including overfishing, climate change and plastics, Sylvia will also speak in depth about the opportunities we have to protect the ocean, particularly through 'hope spots' vital to its health.
'Even if you never have the chance to see or touch the ocean, the ocean touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume. Everyone, everywhere is inextricably connected to and utterly dependent upon the existence of the sea.'― Sylvia A. Earle, 'The World Is Blue'
