Member Evening: Prof Richard Fortey
Event type: Evening event
Location: Flett Theatre
Member: £10 (includes a free drink)
A lifetime of working behind the scenes at the Museum eabled Prof Richard Fortey's research into the mysterious world of living fossils.
Living fossils are animals and plants that have changed comparatively little through the immense span of geological time. Prof Fortey has travelled all over the world in pursuit of them, inspiring various books and TV features along the way.
Our in-house expert will describe his journeys to China in search of the gingko tree, to New Zealand in a quest for the velvet worm, and to eastern US to find horseshoe crabs.
Bringing the focus closer to home, Richard will demonstrate how his small piece of ancient woodland in the Chiltern Hills can be just as revealing as what he's encountered in exotic locations.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
