Grow a green screen that helps block out air pollution
Cars and other transport, as well as gas use and industry in some areas, are the main sources of air pollution.
Air pollution impacts everyone's health, but by growing a screen of vegetation you can create a natural barrier that not only helps to filter out pollution but also provides a home for wildlife. To create a green screen on your property, try planting species such as ivy.

You will need
climbing plants (such as ivy)
spade
compost
canes
a fence or metal frame
string or plant ties
How this can help
A green screen will protect an area by helping to absorb polluting gases, such as nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter released by transport on nearby roads.
Climbing plants like ivy can provide a home and food for animals. For example, the flowers are a good source of nectar for insects. Bats, which will roost in dense ivy, may also eat these insects, giving them a boost before hibernation.
Ivy berries are an important source of food for birds, helping to sustain them through winter.
