Take part in a bird-watching survey

The RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch is one of the world's largest wildlife surveys. It takes place every January and you can get involved by counting the birds you see in your garden, local park or from a balcony.

Your findings will help scientists to identify changes in UK bird populations.

  • one hour and a view of the outdoors

  • pencil and paper

  • to submit your results to the RSPB

  • Some of the UK's best-known birds are facing threats to their survival. Data from the survey tracks changes from year to year and shows experts which species need our help.

  • The Big Garden Birdwatch is a great introduction to garden birds. You'll get to know which birds visit your local area and improve your identification skills.
