Summary

I'm the senior curator in charge of the "small orders". My responsibilities include safeguarding the collections, providing access to the international research community and developing the collections through exchanges, donations and targeted field work. I am directly responsible for the following orders: Blattodea, Dermaptera, Ephemeroptera, Embioptera, Mantodea, Mecoptera, Megaloptera, Neuroptera, Notoptera, Orthoptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Phasmida, Raphidioptera and Trichoptera.

In addition the small orders include: Archaeognatha, Collembola, Diplura, Hemiptera, Phthiraptera, Protura, Psocoptera, Thysanoptera, Zoraptera and Zygentoma curated by Paul Brown and Mick Webb (specifically Hemiptera: Heteroptera and Auchenorrhyncha).

In addition to research on the taxonomy and evolutionary biology of the groups under my care, my research focuses on the integration of DNA based methods (DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, metagenomics) of both bulk sample and environmental DNA (eDNA) with morphological approaches to exploring freshwater biodiversity and monitoring water quality.
