Over the last year the Museum has received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop the Urban Nature Project – a national initiative designed to give people across the UK, no matter who they are or where they live, the motivation and tools to safeguard the nature in towns and cities so that people and planet can thrive together.
Thanks to the funding, we have;
started working with our network of 4 urban biodiversity monitoring sites across the UK
ran #SlimeSearch, a community science project to help scientists learn more about slug and snail species across the UK
worked with 12 young people from diverse backgrounds to discuss and explore local urban nature stories that are poignant to them
begun our national teacher training course with over 140 teachers signed up from across the country
This is only the first phase of the project. To find out about our future plans visit our Urban Nature Project pages.
To say thank you to the National Lottery players who helped fund the project, between 19-27 March 2022 we’re offering someone the chance to win an exclusive tour of the Museum's Wildlife Garden for up to six people and a year’s Family Membership to the Museum.
To enter you must share a photo on your Twitter or Instagram account, tag the Natural History Museum and include the hashtag #UrbanNaturePhoto. Photos should depict an image celebrating wildlife (animals and plants) in an urban environment with a visible National Lottery ticket.
The photos must be posted publicly on your account between Saturday 19 March 2022 at 00.00 GMT and Sunday 27 March at 23.59 BST. The competition is open to UK residents only. Please see full terms and conditions below.
