Fellow of the Linnean Society 1861 - President 1886-90, VP and on Council at various times. Fellow of the Royal Society. President of the Geologists' Association 1875. President of the Royal Microscopical Society 1901.
1871-1909 Consulting Botanist to the Royal Agricultural Society.
