Description | The series comprises three sets of registers kept by individual members of staff, together with surviving volumes from the central departmental register which was the responsibility of the Department's clerical assistant. The registers kept by individual contain only brief details of incoming and, in some cases, outgoing letters; the departmental registers are more detailed, and track the course of each letter around the department. Although there is no direct evidence that early registers have been lost or destroyed, it seems likely that that for 1936-1937 was originally one of a series. The H A Miers registers are all indexed.
Many, but not all of the letters registered will be present in the departmental correspondence, DF1. |
