Description | Letter from Alfred Russel Wallace to his son William from Old Orchard, Broadstone, Wimborne (Dorset), 20 Aug 1911, enclosing a notice of objection to William's vote (not present); suffering from rheumatism; railway strike, has written to Lloyd George urging him and Asquith to take over management of the railways by Royal Proclamation on the grounds of 70 years mismanagement, granting an amnesty to all strikers except for acts of violence, agreeing to their demands for one year while instituting an enquiry into reorganisation of the system first for the benefit of the public and the railway workers and lastly the shareholders, common knowledge that the workers grievances genuine, and cost of extra wages will be saved in safety, economy and public convenience; hopes for acknowledgement of letter soon; hopes William will enquire into the management of his Sanatorium and similar institutions.
