Activity	Born in Midlothian, Falconer graduated MA from the University in 1897 and BSc (1901) and DSc (1906) from the University of Edinburgh. He was an assistant to Professor James Geike at Edinburgh before he was appointed Principal of the Mineral Survey of Northern Nigeria in 1904. After spending f1911-1916 as lecturer in Geography at the University of Glasgow, Falconer returned to Africa in 1916 and became Director of the Geological Survey of Nigeria from 1918 to 1927. He was subsequently the Geologist to the Republic of Uruguay. Swiney lecturer 1914.
