Title | Gallery Photograph Album 2: Army biscuit enquiry display |
Description | Was previously PH/173/1522 This display was the result of a request for help from the War Office in 1910. Troops in South Africa and Mauritius had discovered that biscuits sent out in supposedly hermetically sealed tins had been infested with moths, and become inedible. Mr Durrant of the Zoology Department was given the task of investigating this phenomenon, concluding that the eggs must have been laid between baking and packing the biscuits, and larvae had developed later inside the sealed tins. Notes: 3 copies of print and 2 copies of negative. |
