DescriptionThese files contain the correspondence and papers of George Bisset. Some of the correspondence files appear to have been passed to Bisset by other members of staff and contain letters retained from the years before Bisset joined the Museum.

The correspondence relates to:
- Identification of lepidoptera specimens for members of the public.
- Exchange and loan of specimens with other institutions.
- Purchase of collections.
- Bisset's Publications and giving advice to others intending to publish on the subject of lepidoptera.
The papers contain internal museum correspondence, and subjects relating to lepidoptera, particular collections or species.

AdminHistoryGeorge Alexander Bisset was appointed Assistant Keeper (2nd Class), Department of Entomology Lepidoptera Section 21 Jan 1935; he was appointed to (lst Class) 21 Jan 1943. He took a voluntary secondment to Ministry of Agriculture in 1940, to work on wireworm survey at Midland Agricultural College, Sutton Bonington, Loughborough. Returning to the Museum in Nov 1940, by December he had moved to How Caple Court, Herefordshire with the evacuated collections. He became a pilot officer in the RAF and was serving with RAF Voluntary Reserve 207 Squadron when he was killed in action on the 2 Mar 1943 aged 34.
