New Year's Eve: Under the Sea FAQs

These questions and answers will help you get the most out of your evening and prepare you for your New Year’s Eve experience at the Museum.

1. How much do tickets cost?

Tickets are required to attend our New Year’s Eve Party. Members will receive a 10% discount on ticket prices.

2. Can I buy tickets for other people as a gift?

Yes.

Please present your ticket confirmation in either print or digital form to gain entry. You may also quote the booking reference number and the surname given by the person who made the purchase.

You must also present official photo ID.

3. Can I buy tickets on the night?

No, tickets will not be available on the door.

Tickets can be purchased until 16.00 GMT on 31 December 2017, provided they are not already sold out.

4. Is this event suitable for children?

No.

This event is only suitable for those aged 18 year and above. You must bring official photo ID.

5. What will happen at the Party?

You’ll kick start the party with a welcome drink in the Museum’s magnificent Hintze Hall. The eventwill be hosted by Guilty Pleasures.You can request songs from our DJ, have your face painted or enjoy the silent disco.

You can also break away from the main event and take your drink into a number of selected galleries, including Dinosaurs.

These activities will close at 23.00 as the party ramps up in the Hintze Hall in time for midnight. .

6. What is the dress code?

Dress to impress – it is New Year’s Eve after all. Take inspiration from our Under the Sea theme and don't forget your dancing shoes.

7. Is this event accessible to those with disabilities?

Yes, this event is suitable for guests with disabilities.

Guests requiring wheelchair access will use the Exhibition Road entrance.

Please email us to make arrangements and let us know whether a carer will be accompanying you.

8. Is parking available?

No, there is no parking available to the general public.

However, limited spaces are available for blue badge holders. Blue badge holders must request parking spaces by email well in advance of the event.

9. Is there a cloakroom?

Yes, a free cloakroom is available to check in coats and bags.

10. What can I bring to the Party?

The following items are allowed:

  • selfie sticks
  • personal items such as coats and bags, to be stored in the free cloakroom

The following items are not allowed:

  • food and drink purchased from outside the Museum
  • any type of drinking vessel
  • fireworks and sparklers

Please note that our security team will carry out bag checks on arrival.

11. Where do I enter the Party?

Guests will enter through either our Exhibition Road or Cromwell Road entrance. You will receive an  email before the event advising which entry point to use.

Guests requiring wheelchair access will use the Exhibition Road entrance.

12. Do I need to print my ticket?

Please present your ticket confirmation in either print or digital form to gain entry. You may also quote the booking reference number and the surname given by the person who made the purchase.

You must also present official photo ID.

13. What time should I arrive?

Doors for this event will open at 19.30 and last entry is 23.30. Guests may arrive before doors open but be aware that you will be queuing outside. If you plan to queue, consider preparing for inclement weather with suitable clothing or an umbrella.

Once you have entered the event, you will not be able to leave and re-enter.

There will be a dedicated smoking area outside Hintze Hall.

14. Will food and drink be available?

New Year’s Eve is the biggest party of the year, so we recommend that you eat something substantial before joining the party.

Light refreshments and snacks will be available from our bars throughout the evening.

15. Will strobe lighting be used?

There may be flash and strobe lighting throughout the evening.

16. Can I order a bottle of alcohol to celebrate at midnight?

Unfortunately, no.

Drinks will only be served by the glass.

17. What time does the Party end?

The Party will end at 1.00. Last orders will be taken at 00.45.

18. How do we get to the Museum?

The nearest tube station is South Kensington (on the Piccadilly, District and Circle lines). There is limited street parking on Exhibition Road and Queen's Gate. You can find directions on our Getting here page.

19. What transportation is available after the event?

Transport for London aim to provide free transportation for guests between the hours of 22:45 and 4.00. For more information, please Visit the Transport for London website.
