The world’s most influential natural history photography competition can be traced back to the 1960s when BBC Wildlife Magazine’s forerunner launched its first photography awards. Since 1984 BBC Wildlife Magazine has worked proudly with the Natural History Museum to nurture and develop the competition into an international showcase of images of wildlife and the environment and the ultimate accolade for the finest talents in the business. The winning images may be magnificent and powerful, or intimate and intricate, but they are also moving and thought-provoking. Their sense of wonder, and the breath-taking diversity and importance of the natural world they highlight, is at the heart of each issue of BBC Wildlife Magazine.
The Natural History Museum and specifically, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, would like to thank EIZO Limited for donating monitors for the judging of the competition and for supplying monitors as prizes.
ARKive is the world’s centralised digital library of films, photographs and fact-files of species urgently at risk of extinction – freely accessible to all online and preserved for future generations. It has more than 100,000 images and film clips donated by the best wildlife film-makers and photographers in the business.
