Damian Bednarz (Poland)

A new dawn

Damian set off in the middle of the night, along with his uncle, to climb to the summit of Three Crowns in the Pieniny Mountains, southern Poland. Once at the top, he set up his camera and waited for dawn and the view to unfold. 'It was as though we were sitting above the Earth,' says Damian. 'All we could see were rolling banks of fog. Then gradually the world began to emerge below us.' As the cloud shifted, first to emerge was a line of treetops far below. Damian took his picture before the mist dispersed and the sense of mystery melted away.
