2011: 10 Years and Under - Runner-up
Corentin Graillot Denaix (France)
Great tit poised
Corentin took this picture of a great tit in his garden. Each winter, his father sets up a hide there so that they can watch the birds that come to the bird feeders. Corentin uses it every weekend. 'About 10 species visit,' he says. 'Several land on nearby branches, but when it's a blue or a great tit, it stays on the perch a very short time. So you have to take the picture very fast.' On this day, Corentin tried hard to concentrate and focus on where the birds were landing. His determination paid off as he got his shot, sharp and perfectly poised, of a great tit perched on a lichen-covered willow twig.
