The last cut

For the past eight years, Daniel has been documenting the destruction of the world's rainforests, focusing on the relationship between deforestation and global warming. One main reason for forest clearance in Indonesia is the consumption of palm oil, which is now used in half of all consumer goods, from cosmetics and prepacked food to biofuels. Here, in a new oil-palm plantation near Sungaihantu, Indonesia, on the island of Borneo, the skeleton of a rainforest tree is the last relic of the rainforest that once was. 'I want my photography to highlight how crucial it is to preserve these rich ecosystems - to inspire people to make changes that will help protect them,' says Daniel.
