The yawn

'I was so close to the pride, I could smell they had eaten, and I could see flesh and blood around their mouths. They had spent most of the day resting, in South Africa's Madikwe Game Reserve. It seemed appropriate to photograph a yawn in a creative way.' Despite popular thinking, female lions only hunt in groups when there is little prey or when hunting large animals. Lions need large areas to support their needs. While they are not endangered, the spread of farmland may one day affect them. Many are still killed illegally, accidentally caught in traps or deliberately poisoned by cattle herders.
