Forest of the fog

'It was my first outing with the Polish Nature Photographers' Union, to the Beskidy Mountains. But it was nearly a disaster - there was a thick mist and it was freezing. But when I entered the forest, I discovered another world. The debarked tree added a point of colour.' Almost 25 per cent of Poland is still covered in forest. Conifer trees grow in these ancient woodlands, alongside larch, poplar, oak, sycamore, elm, birch and many others. Some are protected as World Heritage Sites, and are home to many animals such as bison.
