2007: 10 Years and Under - Specially Commended
Gregor Tims (United Kingdom)
Pygmy pair
'I love birdwatching, and I collect as many pictures of different birds as I can. On holiday with my family in Namibia's Etosha National Park, I saw these African pygmy falcons. The female is on the right, with the brown back. To get the best picture, I used my mother's camera and zoom, just before they flew away.' One of the world's smallest birds of prey, pygmy falcons eat mainly insects and reptiles plus the occasional nestling or adult bird. They often live in the empty nests of sociable weavers, in bush country across eastern and southern Africa.
