2006: Creative Visions - Highly Commended
Benjamin D. Walls (United States of America)
Elements
'At first glance, this could be an abstract painting in a posh New York Studio,' says Benjamin. 'But even better, it is a portrayal of one of nature's wonders - a thermal pool in Yellowstone National Park.' The clear, hot water reflects the blue-greens, while at the cooler edges of the pool, yellow and orange bacteria and algae add colour to the palette. Having found the composition he wanted, Benjamin waited most of the day for the sun to be in just the right spot, 'hovering about the blue depths of the pool'. It's this that completes the striking composition.
Fuji GX617 with 90mm Fujinon lens and Fuji Focusing Screen; 1/4 sec at f45; Fujichrome Velvia 50; Bogen Carbon One tripod with Manfrotto Proball head; cable release.
