2006: Creative Visions - Highly Commended
Magnus Lundgren (Sweden)
Reef colour
On a night dive in the Red Sea, Magnus found a parrotfish sleeping under a coral overhang. Using his macro lens, he concentrated on looking for new angles and patterns, and became slowly mesmerized by the iridescent colours. 'I took more than 100 images,' he says, 'and this one, from the base of the tail, is my favourite'. The colour of a parrotfish alters depending on what growth phase it is in and what sex it is. These variations provide a never-ending palette for the nature photographer.
Nikon D70 with 105mm macro lens; 1/250 sec at f32; 200 ISO; underwater housing; double strobes.
