2006: The Eric Hosking Portfolio Award - Winner
Serkan Günes (Sweden)
Ice baubles
There is a lake near his home that Serkan visits regularly. 'On this day, the lake was dead still,' he says, 'and reflected in it was the sunlit winter wood'. Instead of taking the obvious, classic shot of a reflection in the lake, he decided to create something more abstract to represent the scene's tranquillity. 'The diamond-like ice-drops on the delicate twig reflect the calm water,' he says. 'They also capture the landscape's reflection'. The finishing touch is how the drops are perfectly reflected back into the mirror-still water. 'The overall impression is one of utter calm.'
Canon EOS 20D with 300mm f4 lens; 1/160 sec at f8; 100 ISO; tripod.
