Mart achieved a competition hat-trick with this picture, taken on the same evening from the same hide as was his winning red squirrel picture (page 148). A siskin perches above its fluttering, begging youngster with a speck of seed poised tantalisingly in its beak. Mart's chosen focus has created a suitably painterly background for the delicately balanced pair.
