2005: 10 Years and Under - Highly Commended Print
Jesse Ritonen (Finland)
Goshawk glare
This picture was taken in the same hide as Jesse's winning shot (see page 138), which was about 30 kilometres (18.5 miles) from his house. On the second day of the photography trip - a special treat for him - he saw an old female goshawk fly in, chase away the other birds and perch on a tree looking very proud. 'I particularly like her pose,' he says, 'and I couldn't get over the brightness of her orange eyes.'
Nikon D70 with Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 ED VR lens, 2x teleconverter; 1/400 sec at f5.6; tripod, hide.
