2005: The World in Our Hands - Highly Commended Print
Vincent Munier (France)
Forest in the bank, Cambodia
In early 2005, Vincent went on a photographic assignment to northern Cambodia - his first trip to a rainforest in South-east Asia. What he found, though, was smouldering stumps as far as the eye could see. The plan is to replant the area with rubber trees for harvesting, but such plantations invariably end up as ecological deserts. The obvious consequences include the disappearance of many species of animals and plants and, for the local people, a poorer environment, which will ultimately affect their lives.
Nikon F5 with 17-35mm AFS lens; 1/60 sec at f11; Fujichrome Velvia 50.
